Spencer W. Kimball said, “We encourage you to grow all the food that you feasibly can on your own property.... Grow vegetables and eat them from your own yard.... Study the best methods of providing your own foods.... If there are children in your home, involve them in the process with assigned responsibilities” (Ensign, May 1976, 124).
Here is our attempt at following his counsel. We use the chard and lettuce in our green smoothies. We eat the bush beans one at a time as fast as they grow. We also have lots of zucchini, tomatoes and peppers that are just starting to produce. Hopefully, each year we can add a little as we become better gardeners and better at leaning to use what we produce. So far no one seems to have the magic green thumb, but maybe, instead of being magical, it comes with practice!
